What help can I get from the Government?

Changes in government funded community aged care:

Community aged care services provided to older Australians in their own homes will be improved and choices expanded as a result of a comprehensive review announced on 18 September by the Australian Government. Prime Minister annouced the $1.5bn package for older Australians on 11 February 2007.  As soon as the policies and the programmes are announced we will have them available on our website. The media release of the $1.5bn care package by the Minister for Ageing can be accessed by clicking here.

Make yourself/your premises easy for Carers to attend:

  • Do not leave valuables around;
  • Have someone trusted help you with the interview and the selection process;
  • Until you are comfortable with the carers who attend to you have someone trusted (a daughter/son/friend/relative) around the house, when our staff are initially at your premises;
  • Don't forget - it takes time to build trust and reliability. Do not leave any temptations around that you might think will not help you get to know the carer for his/her skills and professionalism;
  • If you have the inclination that something is amiss please let us know stright away;
  • Ask for copies of references - check the website for comments left by other clients;
  • At anytime you are in doubt contact the CareBear office at 1300 CAREBEAR.
